AI Moldova and the National Coalition for the Ratification of the Roman Statute

The National Coalition calls the Parliament of Republic of Moldova to ratify the Roman Statute of International Criminal Court, and to stop impunity of war criminals and prevent possible war crimes on the territory of Republic of Moldova.

The International Criminal Court is a unique international mechanism that has an international jurisdiction, but the condition that will ensure the effectiveness of this Court is to make all the states sign it and ratify the Roman Statute. Otherwise criminals will have a possibility to hide on the territories of the non-member states, and the efforts of the rest of the world will be in vain.

Moldova signed the Roman Statute at the beginning, but haven't ratified it. So, juridically the Statute is not applying on the territory of Moldova. Which eventually may lead to unpleasant consequences.

Moldovan declarations regarding democracy, state of law and international community should be expressed through direct actions, - of ratifying the Roman Statute.

There is a national Coalition, that consists of Amnesty International Moldova, Promo Lex, CREDO, IDOM, RCTV Memoria, and an International Coalition that addressed claims to the representatives of Moldovan Parliament.

The national Coalition also had a meeting with the representatives of the parliament, there where presented the arguments of the Coalition for the ratification of the Roman Statute, presentations and discussed after it.
